CMS Backup Scheduler

A Cougar Mountain customer named Marti asked this question:

How do I set CMS to do a backup tonight after everyone goes home?

Kevin, one of our finest System Trainers answered:

There are two methods to accomplish this; set up the backup in either the CMS Backup Scheduler window for a one-time backup, or use the Scheduled Task Wizard to set up a recurring backup. The easiest method is to use the tool that comes with our software: CMS Backup Scheduler.

To set up a one-time backup using the CMS Backup Scheduler:

1) Open the CMS Backup Scheduler using your Start menu:

Start Menu for Backup Scheduler

2) Then:
 - Select the company you want to backup to
 - enter your destination path (or use the Dir button)
 - check the boxes for what you want backed up (usually just the Data)

CMS Backup Scheduler window

3) At this point you can click the OK button to begin the backup immediately. But since you want to schedule it for later after everyone goes home, check the Schedule Backup box, and enter the number of hours / minutes into the future you want the backup to begin.

Then click OK, and your done. You will see a count-down in the window until the backup begins – and in the morning when you come in, you should see a ‘backup complete’ window.

It should be noted that the backup stores the files on the same hard disk as the data is contained. So if you have an unrecoverable hard disk failure, your backup files will be also be unrecoverable.

Suggest an external hard drive be used to backed up to using xcopy for local backup and an internet backup system like carbonite.com for your off-site backup.
