Top Three Questions Asked of Customer Support
With tax season upon us, the CMS Customer Support team is staying very busy. Here are answers to the three most often asked questions from Cougar Mountain customers.
Question #1 - How do I “close” the year 2007?
Answer: If you choose to close the year in Cougar Mountain, just follow the steps in our handy Year End Checklist.
Question #2 – How do I update my tax forms and tax tables?
Answer:
• The federal tax forms and tax tables that are built into CMS get updated with the Payroll Update Utility (all your 2008 payroll tax codes, and the 2007 tax forms like the W-2).
• If you need state tax forms, then use Aatrix.
• Both the Payroll Update Utility and Aatrix updates are now ready for download.
• all payroll tax updates are automatically included with the Software Assurance service. If you need to update your account, let us know.
Question #3 – How come the EIN number is not printing on my W-2?
Answer: the problem is that the Tax Code being used on that employee does not have its EIN box filled in – it is blank. To fix this issue, follow these steps:
• Open Payroll
• In the menu, click Employee > Employee Maintenance
• Select the employee from the lookup, then click on the Tax Information Tab
• Take note of which Tax code is associated with that Employee – including whether it is married, or single.
• Click Cancel to close the Employee window
• Now click on Options > Codes > Tax Tables
• Click the Find button and choose the appropriate Tax code that was associated with the Employee.
• Click the Edit button and add your EIN to that Tax Code, then Save.
• Now go print your W-2’s!
